Cast Your Vote for Michelle Wu

Here's everything you need to know to cast your vote for Michelle Wu in the Boston Mayoral Election.

The race to elect the Mayor of Boston happens in two parts.

First, registered voters will vote in a preliminary election on September 9. This preliminary election is nonpartisan. Every registered voter can vote for any one candidate, no matter what political party they belong to.

The top two vote-getters will move on to a general election on November 4. The winner will be the elected Mayor of Boston.


Important Dates & Deadlines for the Boston Mayoral Election

Saturday August 30, 2025: This is the last day to register to vote for the Preliminary Election. The deadline to register to vote is 5:00 p.m. You can register in-person at Boston City Hall, by mail, or online if you have a Massachusetts ID from the RMV. Visit the Secretary of the Commonwealth's Online Voter Registration website for more information.

Saturday, August 30th, 2025: In-person early voting for the Preliminary Election begins! You can participate in early voting on Saturday, August 30, Sunday, August 31, and Tuesday, September 2 through Friday, September 5. You can vote at any early voting location, regardless of your registered address. Find your nearest early vote polling location.

Tuesday, September 2, 2025 at 5pm: This is the last hour and day to request a vote by mail application for the Preliminary Election. Learn about voting by mail.

Tuesday, September 9, 2025: Preliminary Election Day!

Wednesday, October 25, 2025 at 5:00 PM: This is the last hour and day to register to vote for the General Election.

Tuesday, October 28, 2025 at 5:00 PM: This is the last hour and day to apply to vote by mail in the General Election.

Saturday, October 25th- October 31st: In-person early voting for the General Election begins! You can participate in early voting on Saturday, October 25, Sunday, October 26, and Monday, October 27 through Friday, October 31. You can vote at any early voting location, regardless of your registered address. Find your nearest early vote polling location.

Tuesday, November 4, 2025: General Election Day!

Am I Qualified to Vote?

To vote in the Boston Mayoral Election, you must be a United States citizen, a resident of Boston, and registered to vote. Voters must be 18 years old on or before Election Day.

If you turn 18 after the voter registration deadline, but before Election Day, you can still register to vote as long as you register by the registration deadline. That deadline is August 30 for the Preliminary Election and October 28 for the General Election.

Voting Absentee or by Mail

If you are planning on voting absentee or by mail, make sure to apply as soon as possible. You can request an absentee or vote by mail ballot for yourself or have a family member request one for you. The last day to request an absentee ballot application for the Preliminary Election is September 2, 2025. Complete instructions are available on the City of Boston website.

Be sure to request your absentee ballot with this application. The Massachusetts Secretary of State recommends giving yourself a three-week buffer to request, receive, and return your mail-in ballot by Election Day.
